Christinah Aguilera Coming To SABC 3

American music superstar, Christinah Aguilera's reality talent search show The Voice is coming to SABC 3 in October.
Another music talent search show... well before you dismiss The Voice as just another copy of the hugely successful, Idols, pause for a sec as this show has taken America by surprise and has been a mega hit since it premiered in April. What sets this show apart from its predecessors and perhaps what made it a huge success States-side is its fresh approach to this kind of genre. Winner of Teen Choice Awards - Breakout Show, The Voice, as its title suggest, is about the contestants's voices not looks.

The show's innovative format features three stages of competition. The first begins with the blind audition, then the competition enters into a battle phase, and finally, the live performance shows.

During the blind auditions, if a coach is impressed, he/she pushes a button to select the contestant for his/her team of competitors. At this point, the coach's chair will swivel so that he/she can face the contestant he/she has selected. If more than one coach selects the talent, the power shifts to the contestant who may choose which coach he/she wants to work with throughout the competition. A contestant is eliminated when he/she is not selected by any coach.

Once the teams are set, the battle is on. Coaches will mentor the contestants and make them over, and ultimately will transform their superlative voices to allow the singers to become star artists. To help them decide who they want to advance, the coaches will pit two of their own team members against each other to sing the same song in front of a studio audience. Based on this, the coaches will pick who they want to continue developing and who should go home.

In the final performance phase of the competition, the top contestants from each team will compete against each other during a live broadcast. The television audience will vote to select who will move on from each team and who will be eliminated.

At last, each coach will have their best contestant left standing to compete in the finale. From these four, one will be named "The Voice of America" and will receive the grand prize of a recording contract.
Talent has been eroded by gimmicks and too much sex in this industry. It's refreshing to have a show that actually focuses on the contestants' natural talent.

Ya'll know that I have been complaining about our local channels being the dumping ground for American reject shows. Well... I am happy that the SABC is finally listening and actually doing something about it. Word is that SABC is also considering broadcasting the hugely popular Entertainment Tonight very day as it is in America. So when the presenter says "we'll see you tomorrow with more entertainment news" - you will actually be seeing him the following day on SABC 3.

I am very excited to see the 18 episodes season in October, with  Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Maroon 5 lead vocalist Adam Levine, and Blake Shelton are the judges and vocal coaches. The show hosted by CArson Daly of Total Request Live fame will premiere in South Africa on SABC3 on October, 5th, 2011.

Big'up SABC 3
