Meet Face Of Markhams 2011 Competition Winner
Looks like Durbanites are here to take over South Africa's modelling industry. Following on another KZN model, Lunga Shabalala - who has become a household name thanks to Calvin Klein model search win, Charles Dlamini was named the Face Of Markhams winner in a competition that had Facebookers irritatingly flooding our timelines with requests for votes.
As the Face Of Markhams 2011 Winner, Charles walked away with a R2000 clothing voucher every month for a whole year at Markhams.
He also got a Samsung Galaxy Tablet and .... wait fot it ... a 50ml Paco Rabanne fragrance. Couldn't they atleast make it 100 ml?
He will also be the Brand Ambassodor for Markhams. According to the company, he will get a chance to attend exclusive parties representing the brand. No word on whether he will be getting paid for these "appearances".
Interestingly the person who got the most votes did not even get the top 3 in the judges' final cut. Merril Govender led the top 10 with 12 506 when the public votes part of the competition closed.
The winner Charles Dlamini had 10 936 while his first runner up Kalombo Ntumba had 5 088 and the 2nd runnerup Arnu De Villiers had only 4 890 which made him the candidate with the least votes on the Top 10.

Though the votes were open to the public, Markhams had stipulated in the rules that a panel of judges would choose the winner out of the 10 highest rated profiles on the site.
I guess this was to ensure that "the wrong person" no matter how many votes he gets would not end up having to represent the brand.
At the end of the day, every competition a company runs has to benefit the company and its brand. No matter how amazing the price may be, at the end of it all the winner has to be the company. That's business.
