Jub Jub Murder Case Delayed ... AGAIN!

Very few things in life gets me as worked up as the mediocrity of our justice system does. You think the police are ridiculously incompetent? Try getting a case effectively prosecuted in this country. Shocker:  Jub Jub and Themba's case was delayed today because Jub Jub's lawyer did not pitch and his cell phone was off.

SAPA reports:

The murder trial of Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye and his co-accused Themba Tshabalala was delayed in the Protea Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.
Prosecutor Raymond Mathenjwa asked for proceedings to be put on hold as the lawyers of both accused were not in court.
Mathenjwa earlier told the court that Ike Motloung, for Maarohanye, had another case at the High Court in Johannesburg and was expected to finish by 11am, but by 12pm he was not in court and his cellphone was off.
Mathenjwa asked that the trial be delayed until the defence lawyers were in court.
Maarohanye and Tshabalala face charges of murder, attempted murder and driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
The men were allegedly drag racing their Mini Coopers along Mdlalose Drive in Protea North on March 8, 2010, when one of the cars ploughed into a group of school pupils.
Four schoolboys were killed and two others were severely injured.
Are you flippin kidding me? This case has dragged on long enough and now you have lawyers pulling stunts like these.

Could these delaying tactics be a ploy for the defense to wear out public interest in the case so their client could get off with a lighter sentence or an acquittal?

Seriously, what other reason could there be for all this unnecessary delays? If Jub Jub's lawyer believes his client is innocent, wouldn't he want to get this case over as quickly as possible so his client can get back to living his life.

On the other hand why is the judge in this case not holding these lawyers in contempt of court. If Jub Jub's lawyer knew that he was needed in court and chose to switch off his phone doesn't that constitute a deliberate contempt of court?

This is utterly disconcerting and one only wonders what the families of those killed kids must be going though when they keep coming to court hoping for justice but always have to be told the trial is delayed or postponed.

This is really sad shem! Hey Phil, you must stop this thing of disappearing for a whole week with no posts. I honestly thought you've moved somewhere else. Other than that, I still love this place.
