Ugly Betty Returns To SABC 3

Word is; Ugly Betty will make a return to our screens on the 1st of April. Nope, this is not an April fool's joke. The struggling channel has decided to bring back a rerun of the show's first season in the competitive 19h30 slot on Sundays.

Ugly Betty follows the daily life of Betty Suarez (America Ferrera), a promising college graduate from a struggling Latino family in Queens. She was promptly rejected at a ‘job interview’ at Meade Publications in Manhattan based solely on her appearance (thus the series' title).
However, company CEO Bradford Meade (Alan Dale) spots her and has her hired as an executive assistant to his son Daniel Meade (Eric Mabius).

Bradford is primarily motivated by his wish for Daniel to stop bedding his assistants, particularly after catching him having sex in his office with one potential applicant.
Betty is not very interested in fashion and is sometimes clueless about the company's motives and organizations, although she has expressed a passion for photography. Betty finds herself helping Daniel both personally and professionally.
Daniel at times has been labelled a ‘himbo’ and a ‘manwhore’ (the latter quoted from the fictional Fashion TV). Daniel has always been outshone by his brother Alex Meade.
He has no confidence in his own abilities, except as a lothario. He is not experienced in the fashion industry and was placed as the Editor-in-chief of MODE solely based on his namesake.
However, as the story progresses so does Daniel's potential. Both outsiders in their own way, Daniel and Betty form an unlikely team, each helping the other navigate the choppy waters of NYC's fashion scene.
Given the fact that SABC3 has been struggling with ratings I personally do not understand why they would put a rerun of a show like Ugly Betty on the 19h30 slot.

This competitive slot features some good shows across all local channels. Popular shows like Modern Family (etv), Asikhulume (Sabc1), Carte Blanche (Mnet) and Stokvel (Sabc2) run on the slot across all major channels.

Surely very few people would tune in for a repeat show instead of watching the other shows on the other channels, then why would Sabc3 risk loosing the few viewers it has by not putting this show on that slot.

The first season of Ugly Betty kicks off on Sunday, 1 April at 19:30 on SABC3, with the series continuing on Sundays.
