SomGAGA Scores A Gig With Channel O VMAs 2012

Acclaimed choreographer Somizi Mhlongo - affectionately known by his fans as SomGAGA, in part because of his crazy fashions - has been named as the official choreographer for this year’s event, taking place on Saturday, 17 November at Walter Sisulu Square in Kliptown, Soweto.

Somizi can't contain his excitement and appreciates the creative freedom to express his creativity for the benefit of the show and take it to the next level.

"For me it's been a long time coming, being a fan and watching the awards ceremony for the past 6 years and having won a Channel O Music Video award for Best Choreography when they were held at the Civic Theatre.  

Honestly speaking, I even wrote an email to someone asking if there was an opportunity I would really, really love to be a part of it, because I saw an opportunity for me creatively as well to do something different. I have been in the business for over 25 years and this is one of, if not the only show I have not been a part of that I have always wanted to be involved in," says Somizi. 

The details of the live event are still firmly under wraps, but we looking forward to seeing what SomGAGA brings to the Awards.

That said, I hope Somizi brings us something fresh. Let it not be a rehash of the mess at the Metros.
