Multi-Award winning singing sensation Lira has been nominated for the arts ambassador award at the second Annual Mbokodo Awards to be held this week. This news come few weeks after the singer's 10 South African Music Awards statuettes were stolen in a burglary at her home in Johannesburg.
Mbokodo Awards are a fitting culmination to a month of events commemorating the contribution women have made in all areas of social, political and economic life.
"Lira's first album All My Love earned her accolades at the Metro FM Awards, South African Music Awards and Channel O Reel Music Awards, and her career has since gone from strength to strength", Carol Bouwer - founder of the Awards.
She is, according to The Star Newspaper, considered the foremost adult contemporary female solo artist in South Africa, has appeared in major ad campaigns and been an Ambassador for Audi, Shield, Samsung and MTN.

This reflects the awards' focus on recognising the impact that the country's women have had in the area of arts, culture and heritage.
The event will be held on Thurdays, 29 August 2013 in Kyalami.
