Raven Simone Finally Comes Out As Lesbian
Well, sort of. Raven Symone, famous for playing little Olivia on The Bill Cosby Show, told fans on Twitter that new laws recognizing gay marriage were a relief — prompting many to wonder if the star had plans herself to marry a woman.
Young South Africans will most likely remember her for her role in the sitcom That's So Raven which recently aired on SABC 1 for a few years.
In 1989, Raven auditioned for a part in the Bill Cosby movie, Ghost Dad. She was a little too young for the part, but Bill Cosby liked her so much that he found a part for her on his show, The Cosby Show, as his grand-daughter Olivia. Which would become the role that ignites her her career.
Speculations about Raven's sexuality have been part of the American tabloid fodder for quiet sometime.
Just last year many eyebrows were raised when she was reported to be living in a New York condo with America's Next Top Model contestant AzMarie Livingston.
In response to those reports of about their vat-en-sit, Raven took to her Twitter to address the rumors.
'I'm living my PERSONAL life the way I'm happiest," the 26-year-old tweeted to her 350,000 followers.
'I'm not one, in my 25 year career to disclose who I'm dating. and I shall not start now. My sexual orientation is mine, and the person I'm datings to know. I'm not one for a public display of my life.'
Raven added, 'That is my right as a HUMAN BEing whether straight or gay. To tell or not to tell. As long as I'm not harming anyone.'
This weekend though it seems the comedianne is ready to open up about her sexuality.
She posted this tweet over the weekend in reference to the US Supreme Court's decision to overturn the Defense of Marriage Act in June.
“I can finally get married! Yay government! So proud of you.”
After the Tweed caused a significant degree of speculation, the star was forced to elaborate on her words.
When probed by fans on whether she was planning to get hitched soon, and she said:
“I am very happy that gay marriage is opening up around the country and is being accepted. I was excited to hear today that more states legalized gay marriage. I, however am not currently getting married, but it is great to know I can now, should I wish to.”
Raven Symone’s rep later again clarified, saying:
“Raven is not getting married. She was just supporting the fact that she heard on NPR that more states legalized gay marriage today.”
Well, all I will say is; good for her! And if she and Azmarie are really dating, they make hot couple.
