Spud Star Troye Sivan Says He Is Gay

The South African born actor Troye Sivan, who is best known for playing the title role in the film adaptation of the comedic novel Spud, has revealed that he is gay. The 18 year old who has almost half a million subscribers on his YouTube channel, says he decided to announce the news to his fans and followers on the social media video site after he shared the news with his family and friends.

After introducing himself, Troye Sivan starts off the heartfelt clip by saying “This is probably the most nervous I’ve ever been in my entire life”.
"It feels kind of weird to have to announce something like this on the Internet, but I feel like a lot of you guys are real, genuine friends of mine. And I share everything on the Internet. I share every aspect of my life on the Internet. Whether or not that’s a good thing, I don’t know.
“On August 7, 2010 I told my family that I am gay. And now on August 7, 2013 I want you guys to know that I am gay.”
"But this is not something that I’m ashamed of. It’s not something that anyone should be ashamed of," Troye explained.
On sharing the news online, the actor - who plays John ‘Spud’ Milton - said:
“I am terrified. I know that some of you are going to have a problem with this. I know that this could kind of change everything for me - but it shouldn’t have to and that’s why I’m making this video.”
Sivan, who lives in Perth Australia and is also a singer, frankly shared about how his family and friends responded after he opened up about his sexuality.
