Meet Photographer Tankiso Tank Khumalo

It's Thursday and if you are a regular here you know what that means -- we profile a young inspiring person who is pushing barriers to realise his/her dream. Inspirational Thursday is about those #DreamChasers who are not just sitting around waiting for someone to hand them a career. They are out there building careers and creating opportunities for themselves. Today's candidate is one such #DreamChaser.
Born Tankiso Khumalo, on 13 July 1987, Tank grew up in the small village of Matebeleng, Qwa-Qwa located in the Free State.
Much like many who aspired to rise out of their tough upbringings, a young Tank found a means of escape in art. Soon after he learnt the art of creating and designing cards in primary school, he ventured into digital design, downloading software and teaching himself how to design business cards and logo.
It was after picking up a camera as part of a graphic design assignment, that he found that his true passion lay in photography which he says “allows me to see the world from all angles and see what many would not ordinarily see with their naked eye.”
As he matured, honed his skills and amassed enough photographic knowledge #PhotographyFriday was born. What initially began as a vehicle to exhibit his work every Friday on social networking sites Twitter and Facebook was so well received that #PhotographyFriday soon led to the creation of a dedicated blog www.photographyfriday.tumblr.com.
#PhotographyFriday was intended to be a platform for me to display my photos. Every Friday I would upload one of my latest works and it became so popular that I decided to create a blog. It’s thanks to #PhotographyFriday that I’ve been able to work with the people that I have worked with while receiving such great exposure,” says Tank.

More recently he designed singer Donald’s album cover and was responsible for the photography appearing on the cover.
His working relationship with Donald did not stop there as Tank went on to lm the behind the scenes footage of the singer’s Denial and Your Joy music video shoots, footage which was aired on ETV’s Club 808 and SABC ONE’s Mzansi Insider in addition to Vuzu, Channel O and MTV Base .
His skill set however, is not limited to graphic design and photography as Tank, Tank previously served as the producer of Hlasela Social, a Free State based lifestyle and entertainment show accessible on Hlasela TV as well as You Tube.
Motivated by his humble background, this photographer is determined to hone his skill which he believes is not solely about taking a pretty picture but about capturing the subject’s soul and using that picture to tell a story. His ultimate goal remains building a multimedia studio (photography, graphics and lm) which will be used to develop young dynamos.
