Mzansi Stars Way Back When ...
They are now riding on a wave of success in this industry but they too had to start somewhere because not everyone is handed a career on a silver platter. For some, hard work and tenacity is what led them to the top.
In that spirit of inspiring you to push for your own dreams and keep going even when it seems like they will never be a reality, here is a first of few fun lists I have compiled of prominent people in our industry who started of doing one thing and grew to be stars doing the same thing or something completely different.
- Minnie Dlamini
Before Minnie Dlamini -- the sabc IT girl, there was Minienhle Dlamini -- a UCT student who was a roving presenter on the gospel show, Spirit Sundae. Yes people hard to believe but LIVE was not Minnie's first TV job.
Born in KZN, Minenhle entered a Talent Search for new presenters for LIVE in April 2010 and won the role in June 2010 which catapulted her to the A-list. She is currently "answering" tweets on some soccer show on SABC1 and dating Bafana Bafana captain Itumeleng Khune. Hey a girl's gotta work.
- Fortune Masina
Blame It On Fame viewers got introduced to the Masina twins' brother/manager in the first season of the show. Fortune is married to former Backstage presenter Letitia Masina who currently appears in the Dettol advert and is also a big brother to Metro FM's Naked Dj Ramesh. BUT long before Fortune became the driving force behind the success of his siblings and "the Facebook guy who was not invited to parliament in that ad" he was a rapper. Yeah knowing the guy I couldn't believe it either... lol
He released an album some years ago. Fortune has not completely abandoned his music inclinations. He is currently a music producer with his other jobs in the business.
- ProVerb
He is a prolific artist and presenter, Proverb has build himself quite the resume'. BUT long before he was ProVerb -- the star, he was Tebogo -- a contestant on Jam Alley.
He is currently a producer (did you know that) and presenter of Idols South Africa, a successful hiphop artist and media personality.
