Reruns Of SABC 2 Series Doing Well On SABC 1

One could easily moan that the SABC could do better than recycling their shows across  their three channel but it would appear that the majority of SABC viewers do not care. Two shows that had a moderately good run on SABC 2 are holding their own on its sister channel SABC 1. They are even beating shows with new seasons on the channel. 

It is with surprise and a bit of shock that Hola Mpinji and Streets of Mangaung are now curretly the fifth and third most watched primetime series in South Africa, even though both shows are repeats from another channel. 

Streets of Mangaung is performing so well that it is even beating new shows like After 9's season 2 and going head-to-head with ratings giant like Skeem Saam.

Streets Of Mangaung stars former Phuti Khomo and Tshepo Maseko and its main languages are Setswana, SeSotho and Sepedi show. It woud appear that languages are no longer the deciding factor with shows anymore, it is now about the age demographic.

Streets of Mangaung and Hola Mpinji are feeding on the you demographic that SABC 1 attracts. The latter is multi-lingual so it not that much of a surprise that it was able to fit in well at the Nguni language channel.

Streets of Mangaung currently averages about 5 million viewers with Hola Mpinji on 4.5 million.

Streets of Mangaung airs on SABC 1 Mondays at 20h30 and Hola Mpinji can be seen on the same channel every Wednesday at 20h33.
