Five Things You May Not Know About Rihanna

Rihanna fever has hit Mzansi as the world superstar is set to land in our country this month. Since to press conference has been confirmed yet, I have put together five things you might not know about the Barbadian songstress.

  • In February 2008, Barbados created a national holiday to honor Rihanna.
February 22 is Rihanna Day in Barbados-two days after her birthday. When she received the honor in 2008, she flew down to her home country to perform a special show.
  • Before her shows, Rihanna sometimes sneaks out into the audience.
Well that's what she told Esquire Magazine in 2011. Before her concerts, Rihanna sometimes sneaks out into the audience in a big hoodie to disguise herself. "I'm too close for them to freak out," she says of fans who might notice it's her-but she's always got security nearby just in case. i doubt she would do that in Jozi but if you spot her DO NOT TOUCH!  "If they touch me, somebody's going to tackle them." she says.
  •
Her metamorphosis from sweet girl to the raunchy bad girl she is now can be attributed to that fact that at the beginning of her career she says she felt claustrophobic, and that she wasn't able to truly be herself.

Rihanna describes the beginning of her career to Oprah in their 2012 interview as "claustrophobic." Def Jam execs wouldn't let her wear anything too revealing, or even red lipstick, in efforts to cater to a younger demographic. "I feel like I was really really protected," she has said. "Really guarded with myself. I feel like they were giving me the blueprint and I couldn't get with that."
  •  Rihanna never graduated from high school

After auditioning for Evan Rogers at 15, Rihanna dropped out of high school to move to the U.S. to pursue her singing career-and she never finished school along the way.
  • She is friends with Jim
This one threw me off too. Who would have thought that Riri would be friends with that guy from The Big Bang Theory? Turns out the pair worked together on an animation movie and became besties after that. After laying down some vocals for the film with him, Riri tweeted "Worked with the very talented Jim Parsons today #animationLife." with the above photo attached.
Bonus Fun Fact: Selena Gomez's hit track "Come and Get It" was actually written for Rihanna
  •  According to Bradley Stern of MuuMuse.com the catchy track the track was intended for Rihanna 2011 chart-topping record, 'Talk That Talk,' but it didn't make the final tracklisting. The song was written by Ester Dean and produced by Stargate, who have produced some of Rihanna's most popular tracks including 'What's My Name,' 'S&M,' 'Rude Boy' and 'Only Girl (In The World).'
