ETV Nabs 10 SAFTA Nods

When nominations for the South African Film and Televesion Awards were announced on Wednesday 5th March in Johannesburg, South Africa's free to air channel, Etv, had a lot to celebrate. The channel nabbed 10 nominations in various SAFTA award categories.   


The SAFTAs were established in 2005 to honour and celebrate excellence of South African Film and Television talent and productions. e.tv’s flagship soapies, Rhythm City and Scandal, as well as eNCA’s satirical show, LNN received a total of 10 nominations across nine categories. 

The nominees were chosen out of 432 entries received by the judging panel.
“e.tv is pleased that our ongoing investment in local content is recognised. It’s humbling to see that our talented stars are being acknowledged for their hard work and dedication to their particular craft. We wish them all the best at the awards ceremony, and beyond. We have an exciting year ahead, with new local productions stewing in the kitchen and hope to continue to inspire and entertain Mzansi,” says Monde Twala, e.tv ‘s Head of Channels.

Rhythm City

Masasa Mbangeni as Thembeka in Scandal

  • Best Director of a TV Soap

Sanele Zulu (Scandal)

  •  Best Writing Team of a TV Soap

Charlie Sapadin (Rhythm City)

  • Best TV Comedy

Late Night News

  • Best Director of a TV Comedy

Kagiso Lediga (Late Nite News)

  • Best Writing Team of a TV Comedy

Kagiso Lediga and Karabo Lediga (Late Nite News)

  • Best Ensemble in a TV Comedy

The South African Film & Television Awards (SAFTAS), now in its 8th year, will be held on 4 and 5 April at Gallagher Estate in Midrand.
