Isibaya Dominates The SAFTAs Soapie Nominations

Just before Isibaya officially become a weekday soapie, the show dominated the nominations of the South African Film and Television Awards which were announced on the 5th of March at a glittery events in Johannesburg. The telenovela turned soap walked away with 10 nods.

It comes as no surprise that Isibaya has received the most number of nods in the TV soap category as the show has received massive praise from critics and viewers since it has being on air.

In an unprecedented nod from the awards, Isibaya's actors were the only ones nominated for Best Actor. Sdumo Mtshali as Sbu Ndlovu, Bongani Gumede as Mandla and Siyabonga Thwala as Mpiyakhe Zungu were nominated for BEST ACTOR

In the Best Actress category the show nabbed two of the three nominations, with Thembi Nyandeni as Mkabayi Zungu and Celeste Ntuli as Siphokazi Zungu taking the honor. Their only competition in this category is Masasa Mbangeni who plays Thembeka in Scandal!

Unfortunately the show's breakout star Nomzamo Mbatha failed to get any recognition from the Saftas.

The show is also nominated for Best Director, Best Ensemble Cast, Best Writing Team, Best Editor, Best Cinematography and Best Art Direction.

Isibaya is also vying for the coveted BEST TV SOAP which is voted for by the public.

Congratulations to the team.

Catch Isibaya every weekday on Mzanzi Magic at 20h30
