Jay Anstey, who played Charlie on Isidingo since 2011, has ditched (or being fired from) the SABC 3 soapie for a career in films. Depending on who's story you believe, since both parties have kept mum about the details, the statuesque actress who won South Africans' hearts on the last season of Strictly Come Dancing, was under the impression that she could pursue other avenues while with the show but found that not to be the case.
For those privy to the inside info, the murmur is that Anstey did not necessarily leave on her own accord. BoMgosi claim she left to shoot a film and had expected to return to the role, only to find that she had been replaced. Apparently, in her absence auditions were held to recast the role.
Word from SABC3, is that Jay left the show earlier this year to pursue a role in a movie. And that's all they are prepared to say on the matter!
The role of Charlie is now played by unknown actress, 21-year-old, Michaella Russell.
