Keeping Up With The Kardashian Ratings Decline

After 8 years on screens, America is giving the Kardashian family’s E! Reality show the cold shoulder as the premiere of their latest season shows that the she keeps bleeding ratings. This comes after season 9A had lower ratings than season eight, which had lower ratings than season seven, thus showing a decline from season to season.. This is shocking considering the hype around Kim and Kanye's wedding which is expecting to be featured in this season. You'd think people would be tuning in to see the build up.

The second part of the show's season 9(B) premiered with 29% decline from season 8 premiere and down 17 percent from season 9's first part premiere five months ago.

In America, unlike in South Africa, ratings matter. Kim Kardashian and their entire clan's rise to the top has been because of their ratings pull. KUWTK has been the highest rated show on E! since its first season so this could spell some real concern for the family

The Keeping Up With Kardashians spin-off reality shows starring Kourtney, Kim and Khloé Kardashian have gone from blockbuster hits to less than half of their original ratings numbers in just a few short years as well.

Though Kim is the breakout star, all the sisters used to be on the top of their game, commanding huge salaries and drawing in record numbers with their spin-offs from KUWTK.

According to TV By the Numbers, Kourtney & Kim Take New York premiered in January 2011 with three million viewers. And before that, at the height of their fame, the spin-off, Kourtney & Khloé Take Miami set a record for E!, with the season finale of season two in 2010 pulling in a whopping 3.7 million viewers.

Fast forward to 2013 and the Kardashian clout on television seems to be falling fast. A September episode gathered a mere 1.79 million viewers overall and only 1 million viewers between the ages of 18 and 49, which is said to be the most important demo in TV, compared to the Season 8 premiere, We’re Having A Baby, that boasted 3.02 million overall viewers.

Fortunately for those who are  fans of the series, this doesn’t necessarily mean the show will face cancellation anytime soon, as it is still the highest rated program on the E! Network.

Plus the savvy Kardashian PR machine is already mitigating the setback by minimizing the negative attention the family has been getting - if the latest promotional material for the show are anything to go by.

There is an attempt to change viewer perception of the show as the men in the family have been participating much less recently.

Noticeably, Rob Kardashian and Bruce Jenner were not featured in many advertisements for season nine.
