Nhlanhla Nciza's Dress Slammed By British Tabloid At BET Awards

While we have beaming with pride that our very own music power couple Mafikizolo was nominated and performed at this year's BET Awards, it is with a heavy heart that I report that one part of the pop duo, Nhlanhla Nciza's dress was slated by British tabloid.

Nciza who has been in the US to be part of the BET Experience concert where she performed with her music partner Theo Kgosinkwe and a host of African and American stars, showed up on the red carpet with the daring dress -- designed by South African design label Black Coffee.

Unfortunately, she and another sister from the continent, Nigerian pop star Tiwa Savage, received a negative mark from British tabloid, Daily Mail - who called their dresses "odd" and "garish".

The tabloid posted  pictures of Tiwa and Nhlanhla with this caption;
Bum note: Singer Tiwa Savage's (left) odd deep plum draped satin gown featuring a completely sheer bodice with spotted design missed the mark, while Nhlanhla Nciza also won no awards for her garish black and white patterned gown, worn with a matching sheer black wrap
Nciza might have missed the mark on the fashion but the singer and her partner made us very proud when they gave a stellar performance at the pre-awards concert which received positive reviews from the attendees.

Nciza has always been a fashion risk taker and I am in no doubt that this little slap won't hurt that much as every fashion risk taker is always expecting that someone will either love or hate their choice.

The fact that Nciza's first mention in the British tabloid in the nugatory should not dampen the fact that this was a history making milestone for Mafikizolo, as the the group with 4 other African acts were the first to perform at the BET Experience concert.

Needless to say ... I am proud of Mafikizolo!! Win or not. Fashion Hit or Miss.
