Selimathunzi Back On Top
After a few years of dismal ratings and uninspired content, South Africa's long running youth magazine show, Selimathunzi, has finally reclaimed its place at the top again.
According to the latest TAMS ratings ( as provided for Week 23: 2 - 8 June, primetime viewership) , Selimathunzi is on 3.5 million viewers per episode. This in turn gives the show a spot in the TOP 10 Most Watched Shows on SABC 1.
The high volume of ratings also means that Selimathunzi is now the most watched youth magazine show in the country, beating The Real Goboza (SABC1) 2 520 000, The Link (SABC1) 2 160 000, and Pasella (SABC2) 884 000.
After losing Kaos as a presenter and the controversial hiring of Lunga Shabalala to join Zizo Beda as presenters of the show, it seemed like the show had seen its better days and was now on its final lap before it faded into oblivion, but alas, something has happened and the show is in full sprint mode again.
The numerous time slot change did not help the show much, so let's hope that now the show has found its fire again, the channel will not mess with it by moving it around too much.
Congrats to the team behind the show. Catch Selimathunzi every Tuesday on SABC 1 at 19h00.
NOTE: Selimathunzi has moved to SABC 2 for the duration of the World Cup and airs at 19h30 on Tuesdays.
