Soul City Returns To SABC For A Twelfth Season
Soul City returns to SABC1 screens on Tuesdays at 20:30 from 15 July for its twelfth season on South African television. The 26-part series tells the story of how the youth of Soul City shake off their despondency to participate as well as counter the pessimism and disengagement that has crippled the potential of the new public health care system.
Soul City is produced by the Soul City: Institute for Health and Development Communication and it’s been on our screens for 21 years. Soul City has also made an impact on the lives of millions of Africans, not only South Africans, but the rest of the continent too.
SABC Education public information and social development commissioning editor, Surekha Singh, says,
“The ‘Rainbow nation’ rhetoric has waned and for the first time, the characters, now reaching adulthood, they are forced to address the ills of society. The series doesn’t whitewash issues. It challenges long-held notions and forces us to re-evaluate where we are 20 years after liberation."
The twelfth season of Soul City airs from Tuesday, 15 July at 20:30 on SABC1.
