Bonang Donates Over R100k To Nelson Mandela Foundation

On Wednesday, July 16th, Bonang and Gumtree's Claire Cobbledick handed the Nelson Mandela Foundation a cheque of R113 020,00. The money was proceeds earned from the ‘Queen B’s Gumtree Boutique’ campaign, during which 28 of Bonang Matheba’s finest fashion items were sold on gumtree.co.za.

The online boutique was visited by close to 100 000 fashion fans and thanks to their purchases, over R 13 000 was raised through the sale.

All of the proceeds were donated to the Nelson Mandela Foundation, along with a contribution of R 100 000 from Gumtree.

The Foundation is dedicated to driving positive change and promoting social justice in accordance with the values of Nelson Mandela.

Sello Hatang, Chief Executive of the Nelson Mandela Foundation says that “valued partners are the quintessential link to driving Madiba’s legacy forward every day”.

It was important for Bonang that the proceeds of Queen B’s Gumtree Boutique be donated to this worthy cause. As Bonang explained, “this is my way of continuing Tata’s legacy beyond his existence”.

Of the campaign, Claire Cobbledick, Head of Marketing of Gumtree South Africa, says,
“it was wonderful to note how our community responded to having some fun whilst raising funds in honour of Madiba.
“The campaign afforded Gumtree the opportunity to make a contribution to the legacy of Nelson Mandela”, she adds.
This is the second time that Matheba publicly donated to the Nelson Mandela Foundation. Last year during a Unite For Mandela gala dinner, Matheba was the first celebrity to donate R10 000 for Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital fund raising effort. Her generous gesture was soon followed by the likes Judith Sephuma and other celebrities at the event.
