DStv Launches EbonyLife TV

The recent Southern African launch of EbonyLife TV on DStv brings locally produced content to African audiences. The channel has launched amid promises to show a multidimensional view of a continent that has long been misrepresented in broadcast media.

EbonyLife TV was first launched in Nigeria in July 2013 with an Afrocentric perspective. Since then, it has grown to become the most prominent platform for African voices, with a reach that covers 44 countries.

The meteoric growth of the channel has highlighted the fact that Africans want to watch content that speaks to their shared values. With over 1 000 hours of premium and original African programming from a variety of genres –  including reality, talk, drama, entertainment, lifestyle, and comedy shows – viewers will never be at a loss to find real African stories. 

Highlights include:

Fattening Room, which sees six feisty women, from varying parts of Africa, go through their journeys of self-discovery in an age-old Effik tradition in the Nigerian coastal city of Calabar.
