Intersexions Star Litha Booi Embarks On An Ambitious Journey To Produce A Film

Actor/film producer Litha Booi, who can currently be seen on SABC1's primetime drama Sticks And Stones, has embarked on an ambitious project to produce a film set in Johannesburg called Firetown. Best known for starring in hit series Gugu No Andile and Intersexions, he has set his sight on getting fans support for the film before it even goes into production. 

Innovation is the mother of invention and necessity. Funding for South African films and getting South African viewers to fill cinemas to watch local films are a big issue. This has necessitated a need for producers of local films to come up with new ways to deal with that unfortunate reality.

Booi and his colleagues have come up with a creative way to ensure that audiences will get to see their film. They have done this by simply engaging the viewers from the pre-production stages. 

Yes, you as a viewer are given the opportunity to be part of the development of the film.

About The Film 

Firetown tells the story of one woman's journey to the heart of darkness. When her young daughter is kidnapped, a desperate mother enlists the help of a dangerous gangster from a local township, taking her on a journey into the dark underbelly of the South African crime world.

The film explores the narrative of witnessing how the dark side of humanity changes a person. It delves into issues of life, death and relationships, as well as morality and questionable ethics. 

Speaking of the film Booi said; 

I was immediately drawn to the film because like most people I believe that we all know the pain of losing a loved one and the lengths to which we would go to ensure their safety no matter what it takes. It’s a brilliant, gripping story that takes us on a perilous journey offering up a slice of humanity not only at its darkest, but also its most tender, one that will keep you on the edge of your seats until the thrilling end. 

The film will be directed by Brad Katzen, who has written, directed and edited some high profile corporate and music videos. He has also worked on shows such as The Wild, Fix My Biz and Scandal. 

"The vision I have for this film is to tell a thrilling story that deals with themes of loyalty, morality and violence, asking the question: How far would you go to save the most important person in your life? Firetown is a story that exposes a side of urban South Africa not yet seen in film.
