Wizkid Shows Love To Dark Skinned African Sistas

The 24 year old Naija musician posted the artwork and track list for his self-titled album (his real name is Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun) – “Ayo”, which means Joy, on Instagram last week. I could not help but notice that the beautiful cover that highlights Wizkid's heritage features some dark skinned women.

While the hip hop industry on the continent, from Jozi to Lagos, seems to be hell bent on emulating the Americans by flaunting half naked women on their music videos, it is intriguing to see some prominent young African stars touching base with our own identity once in a while.

Wizkid's latest cover also piqued my attention as it comes few months after some backlash he received for his music video, which was shot in Florida USA, which features only light skinned half naked latina women.

Back in November 2013, he and Akon came under fire for reportedly refusing dark skinned ladies to be featured in their video shoot in Accra.

His latest album includes collaborations with international artists Wale & Tyga, and Nigerian artists Banky W, Seyi Shay, Phyno & Femi Kuti.
