Nominees For The Feather Awards To Be Announced Next Week

Its that time of the year again, where South Africa's fabulously irreverent awards hit the Jozi social scene. I have just received the invitation to the 2014 Feather Awards Nominees announcement breakfast. 

The Feather Awards have become a big part of the entertainment industry's social scene for six years now.

Paying tribute to personalities across the entertainment, sports, and business fields who people in the gay and lesbian community find inspirational, attractive, or just plain scandalous — this unique brand of awards ceremony has ruffled some few feathers

The actual ceremony is a tongue-in-cheek affair which is usually a blend of glamour and themed spectacle. I have attended 4 of these and it is always a special night of laughter, fashion and just fun. 

On a more serious side,  the Feathers also pays homage to individuals or platforms that uplift the image and situations of sexual minorities in South Africa. 

Amongst last year's new categories, for example was the Media of the Year - an award for a media platform that depicts and represents sexual minorities in an empowering and positive light.
