Young South African Actor Makes Time Magazine's Most Influential Teens List

South African-Australian actor Troye Sivan, best known for his lead role in the Spud movie series, has been listed on Time Magazine’s list of the 25 Most Influential Teens of 2014.

After being discovered by a Hollywood producer on YouTube, where he frequently posts video blogs to his 2.8 million subscribers, Sivan has gone on to star in a number of films and has released a chart topping debut album.

However, it was his heart warming "coming out" youtube video last year that got the now 19 year old a lot of media attention. Watch the video where Troye told his followers via his Youtube channel that he was gay; HERE.

In addition, the 19-year-old has proven himself as a bona fide musician. On 26 June 2014, Sivan publicly announced through his YouTube channel that he had signed a record deal with Universal Music, and released his new EP, entitled TRXYE, through EMI Music Australia in August 2014.

He is currently in the process of writing and recording his debut studio album and has donated all of the profits from one of his most successful songs to a children’s cancer hospital.

Troye has been acknowledged as a positive advocate for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) acceptance.
“We analysed social-media followings, cultural accolades, business acumen and more to determine this year’s list,” reads a statement on the Time Magazine website.
Other names on the list include youth activist Malala Yousafzai, reality stars Kylie and Kendall Jenner and pro golfer Lydia Ko.

Congrats to Troye!
