Popular 7de Laan Star QUITS

After 12-and-a-half years on SABC2's Afrikaans soapie 7de Laan, Bertha le Roux has decided to call it quits. The mother of 2 bid farewell to the show that made her a household name last week .

The actress who played Emma for all those years says she is leaving the show to avail herself to movie and theatre opportunities.

As for when she decided that the time had come for change, the actress says, 

“Well, I have been thinking about it for a long time. It’s difficult to have something steady. As an actor, I have been blessed by having 7de Laan. I wanted to act because it offered variety and fed into my passion.”

Bertha's move into the films may not be such a bad idea given that the Afrikaans film industry is really doing well and is the highest grossing genre of films in South Africa.

“I really look forward to the new phase, but it’s also very sad,” says Bertha. 

“But I don’t want to look back on my life and then 7de Laan was the only thing I’ve done.”

Bertha has already wrapped her shooting for the soapie but her final scenes on the show will air on 12th December 2014.
