We Won R20 000 For Charity | Peermont Emperors Palace Charity Mile 2014

Horse charities scored big at the race meeting this past weekend at the Peermont Emperors Palace in Johannesburg. As I informed you last week, I was invited to partner with Top Billing presenter Jonathan Boyton Lee to be one of the media partners for the event... and what an exciting experience it was.

The Charity Mile was worth a total of R550,000 to 16 charities. All 16 horses in the field ran for a charity with their finishing positions deciding how much each won, with R100,000 for the charity affiliated to the winner down to R20,000 for the last five horses home.

Sadly our horse BrookClub finished in 12th place which meant our charity, Star Schools, would only take away R20000. The winner was Bezanova ran for National Horse Trust charity and won them R100000.

Other notable celebrity names involved in this charity race were Pearl Thusi, Amanda duPont, Maps Maponyane, Edith Venter, Paul Buckby, to name just a few.

Pearl Thusi's horse No Worries representing the Izanokhanyo Community Based Project charity came in second place and nabbed R70 000.

Model turned Tv Personality, Maps Maponyane's horse Killua Castle did not fair that well for his charity Khangezile Primary Aftercare Centre, as it finished in 9th place with a winning of R26 000

However, it was the lovely actress Amanda duPont's horse that was a let down for the day. Rake's Chestnut ran for Nageng Primary Aftercare Centre with Amanda as its celebrity supporter and SowetoTV as the media partner. Unfortunately the horse was disqualified and put in last place after it jockey fell off the horse. The charity still got awarded R20 000.

A great afternoon it was at the Turffontein race course. The celebrities came out looking absolutely fabulous.

Thank you to Emperors Palace and Phumelela for a great experience. I genuine had an amazing time with my friends. We were treated well above what we expected. It was a privilege and an honor to be partt of this worthwhile initiative.

A special thank you has to go to Jonathan Boyton Lee who was such a good spot. The guy was game for anything we wanted him to do in terms of the pictures we needed. He is just a gentleman and the way he interacts with people is testament to his reputation as a nice guy.

Amanda DuPont is another person who won my affection after spending time with her for the first time that day. She exudes confidence with the right amount of sass. She just lights up the space and just radiates beauty and fun.
