Kay Sibiya Makes His Acting Debut on SABC1's New Telenovela

As reported on this blog last year, SABC1 will be introducing a new show, styled in a telenovela format, starring Menzi Ngubane and Leleti Khmalo, called Uzalo. Well SABC likes to take care of their own and the channel's new find is Sunday Chillas' presenter and industry new-comer Kay Sibiya.

The good-looking presenter-now-turned-actor from Durban will be starring opposite industry giants in this new show which will premiere on the channel in February.

Of the show a press release was sent out today which describes the show as a provocative, bold and authentic narrative that tells the story of two family dynasties and the two young men who carry their hopes and legacies as they face the complexities of money, family and love.

At the heart of the drama’s raison d’etre is the question:  in a country with a history as complex and multifaceted as South Africa’s, what are the ties that bind?  Is it blood-ties that make up the family unit, or the bonds forged with ‘perfect strangers’ who often become dearer to us?
Exploring themes of identity, inheritance and beliefs, a shocking secret revealed on a deathbed kicks off this fast-paced telenovela.
Khumbulani ‘Kay’ Sibiya will be playing Ayanda Mdletshe — the charming, and ambitious pastor’s son.

I am very weary of calling people down-to-earth anymore because I have learnt that you support and acknowledge people in this business for being great people then next thing they get a bit of attention and turn into divas who will tell you to "stay in your lane". You are left wondering, when did you become pompous that you think you have your own special lane in life.

With that in mind, I have met Kay and he comes across as a good guy but I will reserve praising his manners for now.

Seriously though, goodlooking as he is, he did not come across as someone who thinks he is better than other people. Let's hope that is genuinely who he is and not simply a front because he hadn't hit the A-list status yet.

This will certainly be a huge boost for Kay's career and could catapult him to a big star status.

Congrats to Kay. Catch Uzalo starting February 9, 2015 every Monday – Wednesday at 20:30PM on SABC1 - Mzansi Fo Sho.
