Mbongeni Ngema To Lead Cast For New Etv Telenovela

Etv's first ever local telenovela is set to conclude in early August, while all indications are there that Ashes to Ashes will return to etv for a second season, a new telenovela will be taking its place after it wraps. Word is that veteran theatre producer and actor, Mbongeni Ngema will be headlining the new telenovela.  

At e.tv’s winter programming reveal, the channel announced that its second locally produced telenovela will be called Gold Diggers, will follow Ashes to Ashes and will revolve – very much like when SABC3’s soap Isidingo began before it steadily moved away from its roots – around an extended mining community and the complexities of South African miners’ lives.

While the channel could not reveal more about the new show, I have been alerted to one name; Mbongeni Ngema. Ngema is a well known and respected stage and screen producer, so his involvement in the telenovela will certainly give it some gravitas. 

My source tells me that Ngema will also be starring in the show much like veteran actor John Kani did with iNkaba on Mzansi Magic.
