Huawei Launches New P8 Cellphone in South Africa | EVENTS
After stops in Bangkok, Singapore, and New York, the global unveiling of Huawei P8 that was held in London in April finally reached our country on Thursday culminating in a massive launch event in Johannesburg.
The evening however, was completely run by Charlene Munilall, CEO of Huawei Consumer Business Group SA, she had the honour and (I assune the pleasure) to unveil the smartphone to us.
Speaking ab out the phone, Manilall beamed;
“The goal of Huawei’s P8 is to become the most friendly in the world for smartphone users. In this gadget, Huawei smoothly combines the best elements of style and durability, giving the user a revolutionary experience and excellence,”
Given the number of guests at the event it was a bit of a mission to actually get to touch the sample phones and actually get to see how the phone works but I am told since its release the P8 has been receiving raving reviews from tech publications.
Since I have yet to touch or interact with the phone there is very little that I can tell you about it.
Huawei last year announced long-term technology sponsorship to local rugby teams Bulls, Sharks, Western Province, Lions and Cheetahs. This could definitely get the little known brand some visibility in Mzansi. We might even get to pronounce the name correctly in time,
Interestingly, Micasa’s lead singer J-Something was announced as the new Creative Director of Huawei.
The launch itself was ok. The formal presentation of the phone was a spectacle worthy of acknowledgement, clearly the organizers had gone all out to make show the product gets as much attention as possible.
About the phone;
The P8 is manufactured using the latest Nano-injection moldings technology to deliver a one-piece aluminum body.
The sleek design combines comfort and ease of use, with the beveled body measuring a mere 6,4mm in height and weighing only 144g.
It is available in silver, gold, black and grey.
The P8’s 5.2’’ full HD display with a 1080p resolution completes the design
It is available with either 16GB or 64GB on-board memory, which can be supplemented with a micro SD card up to 128GB that fits into the dual SIM slot that alternatively accepts a second SIM card.
The P8 will be available in South African stores and through all network operators from the second week of July.
