Donald Ups the Stakes For His New Album Release | Black & White 2.0
SA crooner Donald Moatshe proved once again that he is a force to be reckoned with when he pulled of a live on-air press conference in collaboration with Metro FM, at the SABC studios in Auckland Park – a first for Mzansi.
The king of firsts, released his successful Black & White album in 2014, which contained 2 discs - a house and an acoustic disc. Now he is at it again. This time around, the star has raked in some of Mzansi's best DJs for a continuation album to Black & White.
The latest offering from the BET nominated artist is aptly titled, Black & White 2.0 - The DJ Edition. The album boasts big names such as Euphonik, Black Motion, Heavy K and Mobi Dixon, just to name a few.
With tracks such as "Never Let U Go" , which is also the first single off the deluxe edition, and Spiritual Love, the singer hopes to get Mzansi pumping and dancing to his tunes this festive season.
Asked if he will ever do a song in Setswana, Donald said that he will never. His reasoning being that he wants to appeal to a global audience. I personally did not get that, but his formala is working for him so why tamper with it.
I asked him if he would ever jump on to the bandwagon of social media gimmicks that is polarising our local music industry at the moment.
"People know me for my music and I want it to remain like that. I do not see the need for gimmicks. If your music is good, the people will feel and connect with it." he said.
In attendance at the event were some of the artist's biggest fans who won a competition to come and witness this historic event. I spoke to one lucky fan, Xabiso, who sang Donald's praises. It seems Moatshe's appeal continues to transcend genders, genres and borders.
Personally, I am continuously impressed and proud to see artists like Donald push the envelop but still remain true to their craft. There is a lot of distraction these days, because of social media and the need to remain relevant, that artist have had to put music in the back banner and the drama takes centre stage.
With artist like Donald Moatshe, one can rest easily knowing that when the madness of Twitter abates true artistry and the music will still matter because they have kept the baton high.
