Fezile Mpela Leads A Stellar Cast For Local Gay Themed Film

Prolific South African actor, Fezile Mpela, leads a star studded cast of local talent in the gay themed film, While You Weren't Looking, which premieres tonight in Johannesburg.

With an acting resumè that would be enviable to any aspiring actor in Mzansi, Mpela has now lent his talent to a film that explores gay and lesbian life in contemporary South Africa.

While not the first film in South Africa to delve into the lives of the LGBT community, this film has the distinction of being the first to feature mainstream talent that will be easily recogniseable to a wide audience of South Africa.

Those who will flock to their cinemas to see the film will see people like former Generations star Camilla Waldman, Intersexions star Petronella Tshuma, former Isidingo star Lionel Newton, as well as stars such as Tina Jaxa and Terence Bridgett

The soundtrack features talented chat toppers like Batsumi, Toya Delazy, Zaki Ibrahim, Spoek Mathambo, Mr Sakitumi, Tumi and The Volume, to name a few.

The film, supported by  The Other Foundation and Out in Africa, promises to be a proper product and I am looking forward to seeing it and judging the end results —yes we judge these things!

While You Werent Watching is directed by Catherine Stewart, who directed tv shows such as The Lab, Tsha Tsha, Home Affairs and Jacob's Cross.

The official premiere for the film will be held tonight in Soweto, Johannesburg. I will be there and tweeting so follow me @philmphela
