Kelly Khumalo Says Senzo's Death Nearly Drove Her BACK To Drugs
It has been a year since the shocking murder of Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa. Embroiled in the media frenzy and speculations following the tragic incident was Meyiwa's girlfriend, singer /actress Kelly Khumalo. Finally, the star has now opened up about the incident to True Love in an upcoming issue.
In the next issue of True Love, coming out on 1st October, Khumalo shares her ordeal of the night Meyiwa was killed. She reveals that the incident and subsequent media fodder nearly drove back to drugs.
True Love has become a place Khumalo goes to share her demons. In 2012 the star gave the magazine a revealing insight into her personal struggles following her tumultuous relationship with rapper Jub Jub. She confessed her drug habit to the mag.
In the 2012 exclusive for True Love the singer confessed that she had a drug addict for two years.
“The drugs had actually started long before I fell pregnant. On his birthday in 2009, I took cocaine for the first time. I did it almost as a gift for him,” Khumalo said in the 2012 interview.
Four years later Khumalo has faced yet another trying time and drugs nearly became her clutch. She tells the magazines;
I thought I needed something to numb the pain. But what surprised me was that nothing in my mind or body had the craving. It also felt like I would be postponing the recovery if I did drugs. It was important for me to remain sober.
The star also shared her feelings about the media fodder surrounding Meyiwa's death. Of the media she is quoted by the magazine as having said;
"I felt like journalists had been waiting for something like this to happen so they can feast on me. I was also a victim that day."
She also expressed her reaction on the social media frenzy that followed the incident;
"I stayed away from social networks. I knew I was going to be called names and be hated by people who have never even heard of me"
