Pink Glam and All YOU Need To Know About THE GAUTENG SANSUI SUMMER CUP 2015

With few days to go, the Gauteng SANSUI Summer Cup is set to draw avid horse racing fans and high end fashion crowds to Johannesburg’s Turffontein Racecourse on Saturday, 28 November 2015. The 7th annual horse racing event brings together people from all walks of life and provides a wider spectacle of entertainment and vibrancy through fashion, a celebrity dash and over the top musical entertainment.

Extravagant hats, fedoras, couture designs and fascinators will be the de rigueur for the day as the fashion echelon will be showcasing some of their best fashion pieces. This year’s Gauteng SANSUI Summer Cup has once again partnered with leading designers from the fashion fraternity to bring an eye catching fashion spectacle. Gauteng SANSUI Summer Cup’s official designer and partner for the Young Designer Award in association with DSSA and Steele Models, is none other than South Africa’s doyen of fashion, JJ Schoeman.

“The quality of fashion at the Gauteng SANSUI Summer Cup race day makes the last weekend of November an ultimate experience for fashion fans. The theme for this year speaks volumes and is synonymous with world class horse racing gatherings - this year we are talking Pink and Glam,”
said Schoeman.

Joining Schoeman and Europa Art Shoes this year is new kid on the block and head designer of Skinny Sbu Socks, Sbusiso Ngwenya. Asked about joining the More Jozi line-up this year Ngwenya said,
“I’m excited to be a part of the Gauteng SANSUI Summer Cup. This is an event where people can be glamouros and come together whilst celebrating the historical tradition of the race.”

Once again, the race has adopted the colour pink as its official colour, with this year’s theme being “More Jozi”. Think Sport of Kings, glam, bling and of course the city of Johannesburg and that’s what this year’s theme explores.

It’s all about appreciating the art of fashion in their various forms, as well showcasing the time period of the city. From glam, class, the theme also highlights the 128 year old rich heritage of the Summer Cup.

Elaborating further on the choice for this year’s theme, Gauteng SANSUI Summer Cup Brand Ambassador, Dineo Moeketsi said,
“For me it’s about a touch of pink, glamour and a dress that is feminine. My brief to my designers (Quiteria and George) this time around is unrestricted creativity, so I’m eagerly awaiting to see their final interpretation.”
Presented in association with DSSA, Steele Models Studio and JJ Schoeman, the Gauteng SANSUI Summer Cup will also offer an opportunity to new and upcoming designers to present their collection in the fashion show hosted on the day.

The winning designer will receive a cheque of R15 000 to continue with their studies or fashion career. Apart from the fashion show, prizes to the value of R23 000 will be presented by Guvon Hotels & Spas in the Best Dressed competition honouring ‘Best Male’, ‘Best Female’, ‘Best Couple’ and the ‘Best Hat’.

The search has already begun on social media. Patrons who believe they have what it takes to be best dressed at the Gauteng SANSUI Summer Cup are encouraged to upload their images on social media, using one of the four hashtags:

#SANSUIBestFemale
#SANSUIBestMale
#SANSUIBestCouple
#SANSUIBestHat

Ticketholders should keep an eye on the official social media handles for more details.

“The Gauteng SANSUI Summer Cup continues to grow in popularity whether through fashion, charity or music. The event showcases cultural diversity and uniqueness which is what Jozi is synonymous for”, said Megapro’s Taryn Rautenbach.
The day-night horse race event is set to attract celebrities who will be accessorized by South Africa’s designers and design houses. The Gauteng SANSUI Summer Cup is the most popular JOZI event that applauds designers and blends fashion from the catwalk to the streets.
