Somizi To Host The SAFTAs 2016 Redcarpet
The year of Somizi Mhlongo continues. The entertainer/Idols judge/socialite has been announced as one half of the pair that will host the redcarpet coverage of the 10th edition of the South African Film and Television Awards.
The eccentric entertainer will be joined by entertainment reporter Nadia Neophytou. WHO?! ... hey you guys always complain that there are no new faces on tv so DEAL!
Amid the controversy surrounding the lack of acknowledgement for black owned production companies and my personal disgruntlement about Masasa Mbangeni and Jessica Nkosi being snubbed... oh and lets not forget the absurdity of Rhythm City being nominated for Best Soap [Telenovelas fall in the same category] over Uzalo, the organisers seemed to be none bothered and say their are excited for the big night
"We are delighted to be working with Somizi Mhlongo and Nadia Neophytou, both of whom are home-grown talents that have built stellar, longstanding careers," says Zama Mkosi, CEO of the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF).
Back to Somizi — the star announced at the beginning iof the year that this year was already pre-ordained to be a great one. He even joked via his social media that he is forgoing any wishes for 2016 but skipping to 2017 for that reason.
According to NFVF, Somizi says,
According to NFVF, Somizi says,
“Taking this gig was less about the money and more about being a part of history, and the biggest event on the awards calendar in South Africa. I’m looking forward to bringing something different, something rattata, something Somizi, to the SAFTAs 2016 Red Carpet as a presenter.”
Well, it would appear the 43 year old continues to show that longevity in this business is a possible thing. 30 years on and he is still relevant and making paper. We don't agree on possibly many things, but I respect his grind, it takes something or someone special to stick around this messy business.
Anyway, congrats to Somgaga. Catch Somizi and Nadia on the redcarpet on SABC2 and Mzansi Magic (DSTV 161) on March 20th. No time provided on the press info.
