Vodacom invites budding artists to create murals for iconic Soweto Tower

South Africa’s Best Network Vodacom, in partnership with the Department of Arts & Culture’s Living Legends Legacy Project, Business Arts South Africa, is giving budding artists from Soweto and surrounding areas, the opportunity to create artwork that will be displayed on one of the walls of the iconic Orlando Towers.

Vodacom is inviting aspiring artists to enter the Vodacom Soweto Tower competition by submitting artwork that depicts how Vodacom network has empowered communities for over 22 years.

The top three finalists selected will then go on to co-create their masterpieces with the mentorship  of renowned visual artists Helen Sibidi, Pretoria-based illustrator Karabo Poppy and Bambo Sibiya. Each of the winners will also receive a cash prize of R10, 000.

“Vodacom is excited to be part of this competition and to contribute to the local art industry”. What many young artists yearn for is an opportunity to showcase their artwork and we believe there is no bigger canvas than the iconic Orlando Towers. Our support for the competition reflects our commitment to empower our customers. Today we are empowering artists by giving them a platform that will see their dreams finally become a reality” said Nadia Mohamed, the Executive HOD for Brand Communications.

This competition is a great example of how cross-generational collaboration between living legends and aspiring artists can enhance how we as South African's tell our stories. Let this be the first of many partnerships that will unearth more great talent and one that will inspire all who reside in and around Soweto, says Mr Welcome Msomi, Chairperson of the Living Legends Legacy Project.
