D'Banj Ditches Ciroc Endorsement Deal

African superstar and now Lip Sync Battle Africa co-host D’banj has revealed via social media that his endorsement deal with Ciroc Nigeria will not be renewed after it expires.

The Kokomaster took to Instagram to share the news of his decision to not renew, without offering any explanation as to why.

He simply posted; “D’banj has decided not to renew his @cirocnigeria endorsement” as a caption to a video of him swaying to his new song while chilling in his pool with his dog.

D’banj was announced as a brand ambassador for Ciroc Nigeria in February 2015 alongside Banky W. The pair joined their South African counterparts, Bonang, David Tlale, DA LES and DJ Dimples who were made South African ambassadors of the brand in 2014.

South African Ciroc Ambassadors

The rumour mill has been swirling and I have been privy to information that the African Ciroc ambassadors are a little disappointed that their association with the brand has not been as lucrative as it is with the American ambassadors.

I am told; while the local stars did not expect to be paid 10s of millions,  they did expect their association with the brand to open international doors and somewhat bring some coins but all that is yet to materialise.

One source went as far as to say that some of the ambassadors [allegedly] just feel like glorified props for the brand's PR campaigns.

D' Banj is a businessman. The star has a reported endorsement deal with Globacom estimated to be worth around N100 million ( R7milliom). In October 2014, he signed a lucrative endorsement deal with Apple/Beats By Dre for an undisclosed amount but Naija industry insiders say the deal could not have been less than N50 million (R4.5million) .

D'Banj severing ties with Ciroc could somewhat substantiate the rumours that the ambassadors are not happy with the deals.
