Idols South Africa alumni Siphelele Releases Debut Single

Usually when Idols SA finalists get kicked out of the competition they disappear into obscurity and seemingly their careers die with their spotlight on the show. Such has been the case with last year's contestants —many have fallen completely off the radar, but Top 4 finalist Siphelele Ngcobo is taking the industry on.

The guy who was told by Idols judge Somizi to stick to vernac and never sing in English for the rest of his life seems to have heeded the flamboyant industry pro's advice and has released his debut single which is in isiXhosa.

Titled "Nandi", the track was made available for download with an announcement by Siphelele on his social media this past Friday on May 6th.

The crooner shared with his fans details on how to download the track and added;
Finally, this is the moment that I´ve been waiting for. To finally announce the RELEASE OF my debut single "NANDI”... And to also finally gives THANKS to you for buying my SONG and for listening to it. I´ve put my heart and soul in this and you are one of my inspirations in making it. This single is made possible by God and the best Team anybody could ever ask for, ‪#‎TeamSiphelele‬.
He also thanked his fans for sticking with him. Siphelele Ngcobo, who was eliminated in the Top 4 round of the competition, consistently proved himself worthy of taking 2015 Idols title, but in the end did not.

On his new song Siphelele is basically pouring his heart out to "Nandi" begging her to let him inside her heart as he is ready to commit to their relationship. He is begging her to stay with him and to forget everything else around and focus on building a future together.

Since Idols Siphelele has been performing at corporates events so his Idols stint has helped make him some cash. BUT after a while this will inevitably wane especially once the new season of the show kicks off. That's just how it is, former contestants are only as hot until the new guys come along.

I listened to a snippet of the track and it is decent enough. It falls into that Ringo and Nathi sound, which I am personally not too crazy about, but appreciate it if it's done well.

My only criticism with "Nandi" is that it doesn't stand out. I would advice him to try and be original and find his own sound but I could be wrong. In SA it seems if something is popular, everyone follows the same formula and for the most part it works, so maybe sounding like Nathi is exactly what will get Siphelele noticed.

That said, congrats to Siphelele. Hopefully this is the beginning of an illustrious career.
