MTV Base VJ Search age limit is 25 — How Did 26-year-old Tshego enter & win?

Following the announcement that Tshego Mosupye has won the MTV Base VJ search, I have gotten questions asking how he was allowed to be in the competition if he is 26 when the cut-off age limit was 25.

On Sunday, twenty-six-year-old Tshego Mosupye from Pretoria joined Sizwe Dhlomo, Fikile Moeti, Vanessa Mdee, Nomuzi Mabena and Sandile Ntshingila to become the latest winner of the MTV Base VJ Search. He was crowned in partnership with Breezer at a thrilling finale party in Soweto.

Tshego beat more than 8000 hopefuls to the crown and will now get the opportunity to meet and mingle with the biggest music stars in the world at international award shows and attend the best parties courtesy of a 12-month contract with MTV Base. His prize package includes an Edgars Active voucher to the value of R20 000 and accessories from Jabari.

His age has raised some eye brows and while some explanations on Twitter were that the organisers have the right to change the terms and conditions of the competition, the reason he was allowed to enter is pretty simple.

For MTV to have changed the rules just to allow someone to enter and then he wins, that would have raised some not so nice questions about the competition's credibility so I had to verify.

Turns out, Tshepo was actually 25 when he entered the competition. On July 5th he turned 26. So when he auditioned he was within the age limit and only surpassed it during the process of eliminations and the lead up to the finale.

So there you have it. Tshego is 26 now but was 25 when he entered MTV Base VJ Search. !!

Congrats Tshego!!
