The gender-based violence App launched in South Africa

Victims of gender-based violence (GBV) can now have immediate access to assistance with just a click of a button.

Launched by People Opposing Women Abuse (POWA), the GBV App entails important information from NGOs as well as private, public sectors to ensure that victims of violence have holistic information when they need it the most.

The GBV App connects victims to the Department of Social Development’s Command Centre to establish the victim’s location. It also links the victims to social workers or counselors who form part of the healing process. Shelter is also provided for victims who are in need of it.

This groundbreaking tool can be downloaded on iOS and Android devices and it is free of charge.

GBV is a global crises and it is through initiatives such as this one that the scourge can be diminished.

As with any other new initiative, funding plays a pivotal role in making sure that a project reaches its full potential. This is why POWA is calling on the private sector to consider assisting with funds for NGOs that help women and children who have been victims of GBV.
