Major moves at Uzalo as two lead actors leave the show

South Africa’s most-popular TV drama draws to an end of its third and most-successful season, the Uzalo landscape will be evolving in exciting and interesting ways.

Having launched on South Africa’s screens almost four years ago, SABC1 drama Uzalo swiftly a audience with the audience, pulling in an incredible 9 million viewers for it highest rated episode thus far. 

Stained Glass, Uzalo’s production house, attributes that success to a combination of compelling storylines, relatable characters, and a solid cast made up of established and undiscovered talent.

Sadly Season 4, which launches in February 2018, will witness the departure of KwaMashu’s beloved onscreen matriarch MaNzuza, played by Leleti Khumalo, as will the sweetheart baby-sister character Smangele played by Sihle Ndaba.   

“Leleti and Sihle have been such an incredible part of the Uzalo story and journey; they will always be part of the family. It has been a joy to work with them, and alongside the SABC we created the platform where they were able to showcase their talent so captivatingly,” says Pepsi Pokane of Stained Glass. 

“Parting ways with actors of such caliber is always going to be bittersweet, but we have no doubt they will continue to work their magic on the new trails they’ll be embarking on.”

Says Khumalo about her departure: “I am grateful for the opportunity, and the platform the show [Uzalo] provided for me to bond with the viewers, and my fans who have been a part of my journey over the years.
Whilst this has not been as easy decision for me as an artist, it is time for me to move on and grow professionally in other areas.”

The production team promises that Season 4 of Uzalo will continue to deliver on exciting plotlines that audiences have come to expect from the award-winning drama.

The show will be introducing some fresh faces.

“We have a clear stance where our onscreen talent is concerned,” says Pokane.

“We’ve always been committed to including fresh, new talent, while ensuring we had some seasoned, established players in our cast. The combination has worked perfectly for Uzalo and delivered results that’s kept viewers enthralled. We’ve got auditions coming up, and will be bringing on some amazing actors – watch this space!”
