SABC2 reveals titles for 2018 first quarter schedule


SABC2 revealed titles of new shows and returning seasons starting in the months of January, February and March 2018.


In February 2016, the channel introduced a brand new cooking slot which proved to be one of the most successful slots on the schedule. The high ratings of the cooking shows prompted the channel to bring back the series Geure Uit Die Vallei for the second season.

Presented by celebrity chef Chris Smit, the show returns on Wednesday, 24 January 2018 at 7pm. This season, Chris plans to make the most of the abundance of the fresh produce that the season yields – by preparing lighter, healthier and more economical meals, fuss-free sweet bakes and breads bursting with summer goodness – as well as venturing out to explore more of Franschhoek and its lush surrounds for further food inspiration, ingredients and ideas.

What will you do if you stumble upon one Million rands? SABC2’s new drama series Guilt tells a story of a group of neighbours who stumble upon one million rands in a near death accident. They are faced with the choice to declare the money to the police or share it. They agree to share the money, guilt eats them up and explode when they discover where the money came from. Guilt will be broadcast every Wednesday at 21:30, starting on 28 February 2018.

The channel also introduces two new reality shows Botho –an Act Of Kindness and Mehlomadala. Botho –an Act Of Kindness starts on Friday, 9 February at 20:30 and will showcase South Africans saying thank you to someone who has made a profound impact on their lives.

Mehlomadala is aimed at bringing people together who under normal circumstances might not have come together but the need to reconnect have been etched on each other’s minds and hearts. Mehlomadala starts on Saturday, 31 March at 18:00.

The journey of Voetspore continues on Sundays at 19:00, titled Voetspore Reunion. Voetspore Reünie is a series of Johan Badenhorst and friends who revisit the past 10 Voetspore series. The team visited close to 40 African countries and travelled for 300 000 km on the continent. It was time for a get-together, reflecting on how Africa changes since the first series. They start at Cape Cross in Namibia and travel across southern Africa, through Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Mozambique and Swaziland, to the coast of Kwa Zulu Natal. They reflect on their journeys on the African continent since 2000 whilst discovering new adventure destinations. This is a reunion of 12 adventurers.

The Big Debate tackles social issues giving a voice to the poor majority and holds leaders to account. The Big Debate is presented by veteran journalist and TV and radio personality Redi Thlabi and will be broadcast on Saturdays 19:00 starting on 3 February 2018, in a six-part special season of town hall discussions titled “South Africa at a Crossroads”.

Popular comedienne Tumi Morake returns alongside Alan Committee as hosts of a variety show, Red Cake-Not The Cooking Show, starting on Friday, 9 February 2018 at 19:00.

After a successful first season, Relate returns on Monday, 5 February 2018 at 22:00. The show will continue restoring troubled relationships by allowing participants to communicate their issues, thereby empowering them with the necessary knowledge and tools needed to help rebuild and strengthen their relationships.

Notable major season returns are Abomzala season 3 on Sundays at 20:30, staring on 4 February 2018 and the continuation of season two of Swartwater on Tuesdays at 19:00, starting  on 13 March 2018.

Children content forms an integral part of the SABC offering, therefore SABC2 also announces the much anticipated return of the youth series Naruto at 17:00, from Mondays to Thursdays, starting on 5 February 2018, season 2 of Doc Mcstuffins on Fridays at 15:00, starting on 9 February 2018 and Disney A.N.T. Farm on Fridays at 17:00, starting 23 February 2018.

Grand Masters and Raising Babies 101 are new shows filling up the children’s slot at 10:30 on Thursday, 8 February 2018 and Friday, 9 February 2018 respectively. Raising Babies 101 is a weekly talk series for first time parents and every caregiver in South Africa, headed by a family Matriarch figure and guest experts, they are joined by a studio audience and cover every issue that affects parents. In Grand Masters, four willing teachers of any subject and from both primary and secondary schools, between the ages of 25 and 40 will be asked to participate in this reality show in which they will complete tasks designed to guide them to a destination where they will be equipped to tackle the teaching task with enthusiasm and courage.
